Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

This website is for older adults, their families, and the staff who support them. Many of our readers use larger text, higher contrast, screen magnification, or a screen reader, so accessibility is not an add-on here — it is the point.

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the current version published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.2 includes everything in WCAG 2.1 and 2.0, so meeting 2.2 also meets the earlier versions that many policies and laws reference.

Display settings built into the site

Every page has a Display settings panel, reachable from the button in the lower corner of the screen or from the link at the bottom of any page. It lets you choose a larger text size, turn on higher contrast, underline all links, and reduce motion and animation.

Your choice is saved in your own browser, so the site remembers it the next time you visit. It never leaves your device.

What we have done

Text and background colors are chosen to meet the WCAG 2.2 AA contrast minimum, and the higher-contrast option raises it further. Text can be enlarged with your browser zoom up to 200% without losing content.

Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline on links and buttons, and a Skip to content link at the top of each page. Buttons and links are sized generously for touch and for less steady hands.

Pages use proper headings and landmarks so screen readers can navigate them, images carry descriptive alternative text, and decorative images are hidden from screen readers. If you have reduce-motion turned on in your operating system, animation is switched off automatically.

Known limitations

This is a small volunteer-run site and it is reviewed by hand rather than certified by an outside auditor, so we describe it as substantially conforming to WCAG 2.2 Level AA rather than claiming a formal audit.

Photographs of sessions carry short descriptions rather than long descriptions of each person in the scene. We do not currently publish video; if we add any, it will include captions.

Tell us about a barrier

If any page is hard to read, hard to hear, or hard to operate, please tell us — including which page you were on and what device or assistive technology you were using. We treat accessibility reports as a priority and will reply. We also welcome the simplest kind of feedback: “the text is still too small.”
